New drawing challenge for Semester 2...A Panda in a sombrero, being attacked by an octopus in Tokyo.

So,  Semester 1's challenge was to draw some variation of Ms. Sawyer and a dragon.
I received some very cool pictures. (Images are posted on an earlier blog entry.)
Semester 2's challenge is to draw a panda wearing a sombrero, being attacked by an octopus in Tokyo.
Sounds strange, and it is!
I had 7th period Art Appreciation students brainstorm, and this is what we came up with.
Here are a couple that I've received, and it is only the second day of the challenge!

Semester 2...off to a great start!

These are just a few quick drawings students have done during their first week with me.
Thank you for your humor and willingness to work.
The next 18 weeks should be fun!

Monochromatic pieces inspired by Picasso's Blue and Rose Periods

Prior to working on these paintings, we looked at works created by Pablo Picasso during his Blue and Rose periods of painting.
In class, we discussed how color is connected to certain feelings.
Each student had to choose a feeling, then an image and color they associate with that feeling.
Drawings were done in ink using hatching and cross-hatching, then painted using watercolors.

Op Art Paintings

Art Appreciation students learned about the Optical Art , or Op Art movement.
In class, we discussed the work of Victor Vasarely and Bridget Riley.
Students then had to create a painting in the style of these artists.
