6th Grade Wheel Students- Exploring Japan

In my 6th grade Exploratory Wheel classes, we are taking a looking at the art and culture of Japan. 
We have talked about theatre, food,  and art from the country. 
Here are some projects they have been working on:

Koi fish are symbols of fortune and strength in Japanese culture. 
Students learned to draw koi fish and created beautiful watercolor paintings.







Wayne Theibaud inspired sushi:

We discussed the work of Pop-artist, Wayne Theibaud, and created sushi drawings in the style of the artist. 
The artist was known for his paintings of food items, especially popular items you would find in a diner.
